The right time to potty train

By JoyLyn71

It has been twelve years since I have had to potty train a child. My first son was almost three when he finally gave in and started to use the potty. I now have a second son who is two years and 8 months old now. We worked all weekend on using the potty. When I ask him if he wants to go potty he always says no. My husband said to just put him on there and see what happens. He has started to go rather than cry about it. I did not have to clean a dirty diaper all weekend. I was having a hard time with forcing him on the potty but once he saw what he was able to do on there it made it easier for me to take. He is still not asking to go but we put him on there throughout the day. It is a work in progress. This is hard to accomplish when he is only with me in the evening and weekends and at grandma's the rest of the time. Hopefully we can all work together to get this done. He is the baby of the family so he usually gets his way. Hopefully we will have the whole potty thing down by September.

I know what you are going through! I am having to potty train my baby now. The youngest of 3 and the most spoiled. Though I had to clean dirty diapers this weekend. He would go sit on the potty just wouldnt poop in it. Long proccess for him. I can done tell.

Grandma put him in Cars undies this morning. We will see how that goes. He refuses to wear pull ups. It's either underwear or a diaper for now. Good luck with yours. Thanks for reading.

I tried underwear too. Cars lol and nope nothing still went in his "big boy underwear" I don't know. I have heard that boys were harder to potty train than girls. I am starting to believe it.

Yes boys are harder to potty train. My oldest son was still pooping in his "big boy underwear" in preschool.

LOL! I do not envy you this task! When Dyson was one, we potty trained him. Since he was a boy I told Rick it was his job to make it happen. He cheated though-he made it like a game and everytime he went 'potty' he would take Dy with him. Rick would use the toilet and Dy would use the potty chair. He would say 'let's go potty!' in a sing song voice and then reward him with candy whenever he did it.

...maybe that's why now, at 11, I can not get him to do anything without bribing him!

Ha! Bribing...never thought of that one. We'll try that one tnis weekend. You are correct in asking dad to do it. He responds better to dad. He knows I will give in to his pouting.
