Time for Edward "Ted" Kennedy to step down
55
While I admire Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy for his many years of service it is time for him to step down. A Senator who has missed 147 votes since April 1, 2009 needs to face the reality that he is no longer able to serve his state. I think eight terms is long enough.
I have been reading news all day that Senator Edward Kennedy has sent a letter to Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patric, the State's Senate President and the House Speaker requesting they change its succession law which requires a special election within five months to fill any vacancy. The same law that was changed in 2004 when Massachusetts had a Republican Gov. Mitt Romney at the time. The Democrats did not want to take the chance if Senator John Kerry was elected as President that the Republicans would replace him with a Republican Senator. Prior to the law change in 2004 the Gov. of Massachsetts could appoint whom ever he/she chose. If he had retired back in April Massachusetts would have already had an election and he would have been replaced by now. Now that there are more Democrats out there that have seen what our new President's agenda is this wait may have worked in the Republicans favor.
Just another example of the Democrats double standard. The law change in 2004 was supported by the Democrats then so why not leave it as is.
Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy needs to put in for retirement and a special election should be called immediatley. Let the people vote! Now is as good a time as any.
Update 8/27/09
Well it looks like the people are more than likely not going to get to vote for a while. Looks like they are going to push through the change so that Ted Kennedy's seat is filled ASAP since he has passed. Go figure.
I guess to honor Ted the Democrats will now ban together and bully their opponents into passing through the Communist Government run Insurance! I have been on an HMO before and that was bad enough. I felt like every time I went to the doctor I was in a welfare clinic. Never again! I will hock myself to the hilt before I will use the governments insurance. It is my right to choose.

Hey Joy, Teddy finally stepped down!
Thats just wrong, I will rot in hell for that!
leave it, maybe someone else wants to add their thoughts on this gin soaked cadaver!
The problem is we usually take times like this and find something good to say about the dead covering up all the bad! This man let an innocent woman die in a water filled car and went home to sober up before he reported it, that is the act of a coward who cared only for himself! Anything else that he may have done good in life was overshadowed by this one act of cowardice!
If you have something to say about politics or religion say it, I need to write more about funny things that have happened to me in life. You can do it, if someone gives you a hard time in the comments I will come along and give them trouble back, we gotta stick together!
Preach sister, preach!
Great hub JoyLyn! What's happening in MA needs to reported. That's the road they're trying to shove us all down. Good job. And yeah, if you post in the forums and they start beating up on you, shoot me an email and I'll come and help (if you want). Tex is right - we gotta stick together :)

I do not respect this Kennedy at all, he should have left the Senate long ago and is the main reason so many people are for term limits. Good Hub
